Topic Descriptions

Economic Overview
Since the great financial crisis, central banks have intervened aggressively in the economy and markets by cutting rates to zero and massively leveraging the Fed’s balance sheet through quantitative easing. Nearly 10 years later, the Fed and global central banks are now beginning to “normalize” interest rates and unwind trillions of Treasury, agency and mortgage-backed securities. In this session, we will discuss how normalization could impact the economy and markets.

Making Your Portfolio Work for You
Historically, many credit unions have underutilized their investment portfolio by being single sector investors and not fully leveraging the universe of available securities. In this session, we will explore which sectors have the most value in comparison to similar fixed income securities and sectors, then demonstrate how credit unions can create a diversified and risk-appropriate portfolio to better capitalize on the opportunities in the fixed-income markets while optimizing income.

With strong loan growth, many credit unions are looking for alternative funding strategies to meet member needs. This session will discuss relative merits of these various strategies.

• Non-member deposit strategies
• Tips for assessing relative value of competing funding strategies
